Why This Blog?

I have five children, ranging in age from thirteen to twenty-three years old.  From time to time, they like to write poems, aside from the toddler, and some of their work is worth sharing.  The ones who wrote poems are ages seven, ten, twelve, and fourteen.  Well, this weekend, they all wrote some poems, and I asked the oldest to type them all up for a blog, so I could post them online for others to read.  I also asked her to write up the testimony she shared on Sunday with me about how this began this weekend.  Here's what she wrote:

This is how the story begins: Late Friday night in the middle of our family prayer meeting, I (Charity) had been praying. As I was, I asked God to give me the words to a poem I wanted to write about Daddy. And I trusted that he would grant my request.

Later that night, after our family prayer meeting had ended, I went to bed. As I lay on my pillow, four lines of verse simultaneously popped into my head, all of them rhyming perfectly and flowing. I could hardly believe it. But these were not words concerning Daddy. They were totally different.

When this happened, I really wished I had had a piece of paper and a pen handy, but since it was quite late, and because of the fact that I would have to go through special efforts to get my notebook, I decided to wait till morning to write down the lines. "Hopefully I’ll remember them," I thought.

The next morning, I woke up around 7:55AM. And I had a bad sore throat. But, it wasn’t really that big of a surprise, because I had felt it coming on the night before. So I climbed out of bed and went to get a drink of water. In the kitchen, as I drank, without even previously thinking about it, the four lines that had popped into my head last night did so once more. I was kind of surprised and decided that I would go and write them down, seeing as how I was wide awake and all. So I did.

Well, it turns out that I ended up writing several other lines of poetry just from those four lines. And before I knew it, I had composed a whole poem.

Later that same morning, I was in the bathroom washing up. By then, I had started to feel really run down, with sensitive skin, a horrible sore throat, of course, and other symptoms. I knew I was fighting off something bad. So I just prayed, “Lord, I thank you that you are going to heal me and that you are going to use this sickness for your glory.” I really trusted He would answer my prayer, although I was not sure in the least bit what He would do.

As the day wore on into the afternoon, I came down with a fever and a little nausea. My head was aching and I felt yucky. Every time I stood up, the room seemed to spin, and my head felt funny. At this point I knew that I was fighting off some nasty virus.

Surprisingly though, for the rest of that day, I continued to receive poems from the Lord. Not only that, but soon my brother, C.R. was writing poems, and then my sister Faith. Soon, my other sister, Hope. had written one as well. It was amazing! Apparently, God was answering my prayers! And this had been quite unexpected. Praise God! -- Charity, 14 years old

Therefore, based on that testimony from my daughter, I'm calling this blog "Verses to the King," which is based on the words of the psalmist that say, "To the choirmaster: according to Lilies. A Maskil of the Sons of Korah; a love song. My heart overflows with a pleasing theme; I address my verses to the king; my tongue is like the pen of a ready scribe." (Psa 45:1).  I've uploaded their poems in separate posts on this blog for you to enjoy (see links below). -- Len

Wait for the Lord

Wait for the Lord when you are in distress.
Wait for the Shepherd, the Giver of rest.
He will deliver the weak and oppressed.
Cling to the faith He is putting to test.

He may not reply at the time you expected,
Yet do not despair if you’re feeling rejected.
You can either succumb and be wrongly affected,
Or else you can see how you’re being perfected.

Then when you awaken, His face will be there.
His peace and His presence will still every care.
Then He’ll smile and say, “Such faith is quite rare,
For you would not relent till I answered your prayer.”

Bitter or Better

When comes a test
Of righteousness
We have a choice in this.
To be transformed,
As Christ, conformed,
Or else be filled with bitterness.

The “I” must die,
Our flesh deny,
Through troubles hard to face.
If we will choose
Our life to lose
Then God will us grace.

A person bitter
Is just a quitter,
So fight the battle longer.
In God we trust
To work in us
And time will prove us stronger.

Sweet and sour,
Blossomed flower,
Or withered in the face of pain.
A bitter root
Or healthy shoot,
The spiteful heart will not remain.

When we go through trials and hardships, we can come out of them either bitter or better.  It has been said that the difference between "bitter" and "better" is the "I".  When "I" remains alive and well, we develop a bitter attitude.  But when "I" is denied and the cross applied, then we become better by the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ.

Scriptural basis:
"See to it that no one falls short of the grace of God and that no bitter root grows up to cause trouble and defile many." (Heb 12:15)

"Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance. Let perseverance finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything." (Js 1:2-4)

"Then [Jesus] said to them all: 'Whoever wants to be my disciple must deny themselves and take up their cross daily and follow me.'" (Lk 9:23)

Die or Deny

Keep me by Your saving power
From that dark and dreadful hour
When the masses will deny
Their Lord, for whom they fear to die

Strengthen that which You began.
Hold me in Your loving hand.
I entrust my soul to You,
For that which I myself can’t do.

I have not come to save my life,
Defending self when faced with strife.
What good is it, the world to gain,
Yet stand before the Lord in shame?

For what we do He will reward.
Did we deny the Sovereign Lord?

He Loved Us First

We all deserved less
Than the King’s very best,
The pitiful wretches we are.
But salvation prevailed
When mankind had failed
And turned from the Lord in their hearts.

His mercy was present
While suffering unpleasant
Was the will of the Father to save.
Though beaten and bruised,
As our Lord was accused,
Only forgiveness He gave.

He took up our blame
And the burden of shame.
His blood was enough to atone.
While the offerings for sin
Could not cleanse from within,
The cross was enough on its own.

Christ made intercession
And bore our transgression,
The object of public disgrace.
People did not esteem
Jesus, sent to redeem
But whipped Him and spat in His face.

The One they despised
Was their Savior disguised,
Dressed in the average attire.
He wore not a crown
And possessed no renown.
Why would such a King they desire?

Wounds were inflicted
On Jesus, convicted
With charges of false accusation.
But His love overpowered
Each sorrowful hour
Simply for human salvation.

We all should be grateful
While others were hateful
Of how He loved even the worst.

Flaming Sword

Lord Jesus, You are El Gibor
You are a mighty Man of War
Arise now with your flaming sword
Eternal praise shall be yours forever more.

Scriptural Basis:
The prophet Isaiah prophesied the birth of Jesus seven hundred years in advance.  He referred to Jesus, the Son, as “Mighty God,” saying, "For a child will be born to us, a son will be given to us; And the government will rest on His shoulders; And His name will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Eternal Father, Prince of Peace." (Isa 9:6).

That term “Mighty God” in the original Hebrew is El Gibor, one of God’s names.  It can also mean, "God-man" or "Mighty Man of war."  So I ask you, my friend, to whom does the term “us” refer in this passage, where it says, “a child is born to us” and “a Son will be given to us”?  Is it the prophet and his wife? Is it the nation of Israel?  Who do you think had a Son, called “El Gibor”?  The Hebrew word “El” means God.  Only One Person is worthy of that name, and that is the Son of God Himself.

Give Your Life to Jesus

The world just might appease us,
But the greater One is Jesus.
People say, “God’s a fool!
Our ways are slick and cool.”

But we say, “God is smart!
He knows how to do His part.”
So give your life to Him.
Repent and turn from sin.

Your life is in God’s hands.
He is in command.
But the choice still remains yours.
Will you open or shut the door?

Out of His Love

Jesus died for every soul.
He even died for all the low.

Jesus died upon a cross,
Paying for us all the loss.

He spilled His Blood
Out of His love.

The Name of the Lord

The Name of the Lord, firm and strong like a tower

Draws multitudes lost, and redeemed are empowered.

This Name is so matchless, it’s found without stain,

Yet the world disregards this and takes it in vain.

This Name above all names, the name of our Lord

Holds life that was purchased through what He endured.

Now saints who for Jesus faithfully labored

Have inscribed on their foreheads the Name of their Savior.

However, beware, for in days soon to come

False prophets will claim that they are God’s Son.

This will mislead and deceive many crowds

While the eyes of God’s people are trained on the clouds.

Those found ashamed of the Son and His Name

Thus before God will the Lord do the same.

If you love Him enough and you know Whom you serve

Then why be ashamed to speak forth His Word?

Scriptural Basis:

The Scriptural basis for my daughter's poem is found in the following verses:

“But these have been written so that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God; and that believing you may have life in His name.” (Joh 20:31)

“This is His commandment, that we believe in the name of His Son Jesus Christ, and love one another, just as He commanded us.” (1Jn 3:23) 

“For whoever will call on the name of the Lord will be saved.” (Rom 10:13)

"There will no longer be any curse; and the throne of God and of the Lamb will be in it, and His bond-servants will serve Him; they will see His face, and His name will be on their foreheads." (Rev 22:3-4)

"And there is salvation in no one else; for there is no other name under heaven that has been given among men by which we must be saved."  (Act 4:12) 

"For many will come in My name, saying, 'I am the Christ,' and will mislead many." (Mat 24:5)

Take Me Away

I search for Your face in the clouds,
For the angels and heavenly crowds.
Lord, take me away
To heaven to stay,
Where glory and splendor abounds.

Is it time for the Wedding to start
When I’ll dance with the Love of my heart?
With uplifted hands
Before You I’ll stand,
Declaring how awesome You are.

Arise from Your throne; pierce the skies.
Let me glimpse of Your passionate eyes.
Burst forth in Your light,
Great power and might
And then will Your people arise.

May my name be written in gold.
May You find my heart hot and not cold
When the City descends
And the world meets its end.

At last will the Rapture unfold.

I long for You, Lord, to appear.
Will You come in a month or a year?
If you grant me the grace,
Then I’ll wait for Your face,
And I’ll serve You with joy while I’m here.

Do You Want to Know Him?
If you want to know Jesus personally, you can. It all begins when you repent and believe in Jesus.  Do you know what God's Word, the Bible says?

“Jesus came into Galilee, preaching the gospel of God, and saying, ‘The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand; repent and believe in the gospel.’” (Mar 1:14b-15).  He preached that we must repent and believe.

Praise for Our King

Be exalted, O God, in the heavens above!
We lift up our hands, an expression of love.
From the depths of our hearts, we shout to the Lord.
Forever and ever He will be adored!

Awaken, O sleeper, and sing Him a song
In the coolness of night, at the breaking of dawn.
With love so divine You have captured my heart!
May nothing on earth ever keep us apart.

O King Who is worthy of all of my praise,
We rejoice in your goodness; our voices we raise.
Help me to love you with all of my heart,
Simply because of how worthy you are.

How great is Your Name and how awesome Your deeds!
No man can accomplish what You’ve done for me.
Diamonds and rubies can never compare
With the beauty and value of love that You share!

Poet's Commentary:  In the second stanza of this poem, I said that the Lord Jesus has captured my heart. I am using the word "capture" to mean "to attract and hold."  He attracted my heart to Himself when I was a little girl and has held it.  And He continues to attract me.  But I know that I am still in the process. I want to go to a deeper level in Him.  That's my prayer, and I hope it is yours also.  That is why I have added in the third stanza, "Help me to love you with all of my heart."  This describes my deep desire, and I wanted to make sure I did not lead anyone to believe I am more spiritually mature than I really am.

God Will Meet You There

God will meet you there
In that secret place of prayer.
He’ll reach down from on high
And hear the humble cry.

Worth My Praise

Lord, always keep me humble
In all you have me do.
Help me not to stumble
But give the praise You’re due.

The Hunter and the Hunted

The devil’s on a mission
There is a goal he’s set.
He wants the lives of Christians
Who aren’t committed yet.

All along the way
He does the best he can
To turn each one away
From Christ, the Son of Man.

Sometimes he will succeed
In bringing one to hell.
But when God intercedes,
His plans do not go well.

He sees the doors shut tight
Within a true believer.
They’re clothed in holy light,
Revolting the deceiver.

They’re armored with the Cross
And following God’s ways.
Jesus is their Boss,
So satan turns away.

For someone else he’ll search.
He’s in a raging mood.
He hates the Lord, the Church.
He’s hunting down his food.

God is strength.

Nothing Will Separate

 No trouble can be found

Where you are on your own,
Left bleeding on the ground,
Forsaken and alone.

The hardships that you face,
The dangers or the sword,

Judgment of Babylon

God is judging Babylon,
For she is filled with pride.
Instead of turning back to Him,
His Word she has defied.

In her hand she holds the cup
Of her adulteries.
This Mother of the Prostitutes
Has made the Lord displeased.

Her mouth is filled with wickedness
And darkness is her cloak.
Her heart has turned to other gods.
The Lover is provoked.

God simply has no other choice,
So judgment falls like rain.
Because she learns not through His words,
Then she must learn through pain.

This land’s no longer of the free.
With sin it is defiled.
Now God must judge America,
The great, rebellious child.

My daughter, Charity Lacroix, wrote this poem on March 25, 2013.  It's meant to be Part One to another poem she wrote previously, called America, Turn Back to God.  She is of the opinion that America is the Babylon of Revelation 17 and 18, which God is now going to judge.

My daughter is not the only one who believes this.  There are many who do, like Texe Marrs, which he writes about on his website.

Another man named, Dumitru Duduman, who was a Romanian evangelist that immigrated to America, received an angelic visitation in which he was told America is Babylon. In his book, Dreams and Visions From God, he answered the question, "Why did God name America Mystery Babylon?"  He wrote the answer he was given by God in 1984:  "Tell them, because all the nations of the world immigrated to America with their own gods and were not stopped. Encouraged by the freedom here, the wickedness began to increase.  Later on, even though America was established as a Christian nation, the American people began to follow the strange gods that the immigrants had brought in, and also turned their backs on the God who had built and prospered this country." You can also read a transcript of the angelic visitation in which he was told how America would fall.

Whether Texe Marrs and Dumitru Duduman have really heard from God will soon become evident to all.
