Heaven's Dweller

Who may ascend the hill of the Lord?
Who may abide in His House?
He with a heart that is pure,
Who has no deceit in his mouth.

One who does not worship idols,
Who is careful to keep vows begun
Who despises the ones who are vile,
Who does not slander men with his tongue.

The one who is righteous in deed,
Who casts not a slur on his neighbor,
Surely in Zion he’ll be,
Dwelling beneath the Lord’s favor.

The person who lives such a way
Will be fit for the blessing of God.
He will stand on that Glorious Day.
His ways haven’t need of the Rod.

Author's note The poems in this blog were written by my children, ages seven through sixteen. The "Why This Blog" post explains how the Lord inspired these poems in answer to a prayer during illness. I also recommend visiting my children's blog, A Brush with Life, where you will also find beautiful art they have drawn for the glory of God. Do You Want to Know Him?
If you want to know Jesus personally, you can. It all begins when you repent and believe in Jesus.  Do you know what God's Word, the Bible says?

“Jesus came into Galilee, preaching the gospel of God, and saying, ‘The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand; repent and believe in the gospel.’” (Mar 1:14b-15).  He preached that we must repent and believe.

Please see my explanation of this in my post called "Do You Want to Know Jesus?"

Smoldering Flame

I care for the smoldering flame.
If a flicker of hope will remain,
I will not snuff out
The life that could sprout,
But time will be granted for change

-- Charity, girl, age 16

Scriptural basis:
“A bruised reed He will not break And a dimly burning wick He will not extinguish; He will faithfully bring forth justice.” (Isa 42:3)

“The Lord is not slow about His promise, as some count slowness, but is patient toward you, not wishing for any to perish but for all to come to repentance.” (2 Pe 3:9)

A Pleasing Sacrifice

Jesus is moved by the ones who repent
Who see where they’ve sinned and for it lament.
He desires a heart that is broken, contrite,
A person who sees that they haven’t done right.

True tears of repentance poured out like water
Means much more to Him than a calf that is slaughtered.
Nothing compares to a person sincere.
He’s filled with compassion at one single tear.

-- Charity, girl, age 16

Scriptural basis:
“For You do not delight in sacrifice, otherwise I would give it; You are not pleased with burnt offering. The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit; a broken and a contrite heart, O God, You will not despise." (Psa 51:16-17)

Wait for the Lord

Wait for the Lord when you are in distress.
Wait for the Shepherd, the Giver of rest.
He will deliver the weak and oppressed.
Cling to the faith He is putting to test.

He may not reply at the time you expected,
Yet do not despair if you’re feeling rejected.
You can either succumb and be wrongly affected,
Or else you can see how you’re being perfected.

Then when you awaken, His face will be there.
His peace and His presence will still every care.
Then He’ll smile and say, “Such faith is quite rare,
For you would not relent till I answered your prayer.”

-- Charity, girl, age 16

Scriptural basis:
“I am still confident of this: I will see the goodness of the Lord in the land of the living. Wait for the Lord; be strong and take heart and wait for the Lord.” (Ps 27:13-14)

“And I—in righteousness I will see your face; when I awake, I will be satisfied with seeing your likeness.” (Ps 17:15)
